North Kootenay Lake Community Services Society is a non-profit, multi-service organization offering a wide range of community-based services. The Society's mission is to develop and provide health and social services which enhance the quality of life and capacity of independent living of Kaslo and North Kootenay Lake residents.
Community Counselling, Addictions and Alcohol Counselling, Children and Youth Counselling, Victims assistance and counselling, Family support, and our Family Centre are a few of the programs we offer out of our Kaslo office. Lifeline, a personal emergency call button, is available to elderly or ill persons living alone. Our Safe Home provides a refuge for women and their children leaving an abusive relationship. Funding comes from a number of provincial and federal government ministries and authorities including: Federal Ministry of Health; Interior Health; Children and Family Development; Public Safety and Solicitor General; Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services; Columbia Basin Trust; and is supplemented by client fees, donations, membership fees, fund raising and funding from Foundations. The total budget for 2005/06 was over $424,000.00.
The agency is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from the community. It is run on a day to day basis by its Administrator.
