Level 1 Express introduces a conceptual framework from which to include somatic practices and principles into your work. We will explore the links between the body, the brain, the Autonomic Nervous System, and trauma and introduce resourcing with process of the right brain (sensation, images, affect, gestures, and the symbolic) to increase and facilitate affect regulation. This one day workshop will serve as a bridge to enter into Level 2 or as a great refresher for those who have already completed Level 1. Workshop will be didactic, experiential in nature and through demonstration.

Level 2 will expand and deepen your understanding and skill in working with resources, oscillation and working with the processes of the right brain to establish and strengthen regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System. We will also explore boundaries and boundary repair; deepen our understanding and practice of completing thwarted responses; and introduce the work of attachment repair in the context of somatic work. Workshop will be didactic, experiential in nature and through demonstration.

Who Should Attend? Counsellors, Therapists, Victim’s Service Workers, Stop the Violence Counsellors, Nurses, Doctors, Hospice Volunteers, Grief and Trauma Workers and any professional working with trauma.

Yvonne Haist, MEd has studied extensively in the area of affect regulation. As a practitioner of both Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Transformation, she integrates her understanding of trauma work principles in her teaching and in her clinical practice. Her studies have facilitated a deeper appreciation of how to elicit the wisdom of the body to enable resolution of body-held traumas arising from medical procedures, accidents, assaults, natural disasters and organized violence. Yvonne works as a Senior Instructor at the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria where she regularly teaches courses on working with trauma. For more information- www.yvonnehaist.com
Lisa Mortimore, MA is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and counsellor educator with a practice in Victoria, BC. Her clinical practice and teaching focuses on the transformation of the Self through trauma resolution and affect regulation. Since 2002 Lisa has been immersed in the study and practice of somatic psychotherapy and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and a Somatic Transformation Practitioner. She is ever inspired by the innate healing processes of the body in the resolution and regulation of traumatic material.
